We opted for a private guided tour of the Coba Rui

We opted for a private guided tour of the Coba Ruins, the ancient Mayan city that was discovered not long ago in 1974.
Only a 45 drive from Tulum also in Quintana Roo, you’ll find these Mayan ruins in the midst of the jungle as the ancient city was originally built.

The government has not yet manicured this historic site as they have done with Chichén Itzá. Where you’d find all flora and fauna in the areas surrounding the ruins have been cleared out. Here you are also still allowed to climb the ruins if you wish. We learned about the many gods the Mayans worshipped, how they worshipped and made sacrifices, their rituals and how social status was exercised. A lovely day of learning Mayan history.

Cenote Suytun is such a beautiful sight. The stars aligned and when we arrived, there were only a handful of people at this otherwise busy landmark. So I managed to get a shot without anyone in it. VICTORY 🤗. Cenotes are natural pits of water that are exposed when limestone bedrocks collapse. There are many around on the east coast of Mexico.
The Mayans used Cenotes for sacrificing rituals, as we had learned during an earlier guided tour through the Coba Mayan Ruins. The temperature dropped significantly as soon as we descended into the Cenote, the energy was calm and I enjoyed a moment of zen. Mexico you are beautiful!

We visited the Tulum Ruins today and learned a bit of history.

Tulum was an enclosed city, expertly built by the Mayans with walls on three sides and the Caribbean Sea on the other. So very hard to get in and out, Tulum was built to be a fortress.

Tulum was a gateway for connecting the Yucatan Peninsula and the Gulf of Mexico with the Mayan peoples of Honduras and modern-day Central America.

So far Tulum intrigues me. It’s high season now, so next time I would come back when it’s calmer. But it feels good. I feel comfortable here.
